Decline of Google...

Yeah Right!

Read the article in FT last week (i was in a clients reception and thought it would look better than the copy of The Sun in my brief case) about the January decline in advertiser clicks and the threat of a Microsoft/Yahoo merger to the mighty Google. Shares are down 32% in 2008 (DowJones is down 5.6% in same period). Now all this is relative and it is a truly amazing business phenomenon and will continue its journey to world domination but...

The most interesting thing that struck me was that i could not remember seeing a negative article before about Google's business prospects and a criticism of their performance - its a journey that all compnaies go through i guess. They start off as the user's darling (Wow! free unbiased open source search results!) and the investors darling (IPO, huge growth in share price) but at some point you can guarantee that they will be regarded as the bully by the user community - keeping down any new competitors - becoming more commercial and then will ultimately disappoint he business community too (unsustaniable growth).

So they have some problems (possibly) but these are problems we all would wish to have.

I agree, where Google may be experiencing threats on the competitor and user side of things; I am sure they won’t be too worried and still “feeling lucky”!
