Converting Traffic to Response

May 31, 2007 / by domsumners

Sorry to talk in code but not sure how public the demise of a big brand jobboard in last couple of days is at the moment. It will be presented as a change in business model but the fact is that the platform has failed to deliver.

Will expand more when the facts become public but it once again highlights this dichotomy

  • In theory - a site has a huge amount of traffic with  the right demographic for employers to target. Therefore - it should be a very simple exercise to direct these millions of users to a branded Job Board service and get them to apply to the attractive jobs on this site.
  • In practice - history and a number of examples show us - it just ain't that easy. The traffic and users of a lifestyle or holiday or motors site - don't want to use that site for jobs. They will use the site to look up cinema listings but then just go on Monster to apply for a job.
Senior management and the consultants they are employing then
  • Believe its teething problems
  • Kick the salesforce
  • Give Up
