This is the first time in about 5 years i have not been up to Harrogate for CIPD - and i am seriously wondering whether i will go up in future. Let me be quite clear i really like it as an event - and i really like most of the people in the wider world of recruitment - so when asked by various people over the last few weeks about whether i would go - i gave a standard answer of "yes,probably, i will see you up there". Just never did get around to booking my train ticket and organising some accommodation ( 50 miles away).
Why? well the big difference is this year its my money and my time out of office and so when i did the mental cost benefit analysis - it just did not add up. I always felt CIPD did not much care about recruitment and possibly cared even less about online recruitment and as we all know it seems to get more and more public sector and more and more regional every year. So I just could not see that we would`pick up some business and we are seeing a lot of media friends recently anyway.
maybe i am kidding myself - and i will be heading north again next year!
