Another One Bites the Dust

FT buys Execappointments - not the most surprising news but the fact of FT being the successful suitor is very interesting i think. I am commenting here without being formally briefed by Ian but here goes:
  • All the usual suspects must have been interested (Associated, Trinity etc)
  • Its impossible to think News International and Telegraph did not have it on their radar even if they are not in acquisition mode (are they always in acquisition mode?) - Would Exec have been unwilling to sell to such a direct competitor?
  • Were FT simply the highest bidder? (let me be quite clear there is absolutely nothing wrong with this policy!)
  • Did the normal corporate speak about synergies, cultural fit, retained independence blah blah act actually have some impact in the decision for once
Maybe i am just in a sunny Monday mood but i do believe this last point has had significant influence here - but i am a big fan of the business and the people so perhaps i am biased...
