FT buys Execappointments - not the most surprising news but the fact of FT being the successful suitor is very interesting i think. I am commenting here without being formally briefed by Ian but here goes:
- All the usual suspects must have been interested (Associated, Trinity etc)
- Its impossible to think News International and Telegraph did not have it on their radar even if they are not in acquisition mode (are they always in acquisition mode?) - Would Exec have been unwilling to sell to such a direct competitor?
- Were FT simply the highest bidder? (let me be quite clear there is absolutely nothing wrong with this policy!)
- Did the normal corporate speak about synergies, cultural fit, retained independence blah blah act actually have some impact in the decision for once
